aviemore
The neighbouring Highland town of Aviemore is probably best known as a skiing resort. A year-round highland resort on the Spey, it was opened in 1966 in the heart of the Highlands, at the foot of the historic rock of Craigellachie .
Many feel that Aviemore should be developed as the tourism 'epi-centre' of the highlands.
It has a powerful infrastructure, has some excellent shops and is about to undergo some very radical and innovative tourism and leisure development. Recent facelifts have given it a much more appealing, modern feel and things are now really starting to happen here.
Visitors flock here for its accessibility to some of the most beautiful scenery in the Highlands, especially the Cairngorm Mountains, known for good skiing in winter and excellent hiking and climbing in summer. The development of the Cairngorm ski area and the area's recent National Park status has given the town and area a huge boost and the rather special funicular railway is a journey not to be missed, as is a nostalgic trip on the delightful little Strathspey Steam Railway.
Aviemore is only 6 miles away from Carrbridge.
